For Modern Maths, Q 28 is considered interesting. Its answer is B (Ooops dictation and typo error: The correct answer should be D (not B)! B will produce a straight line graph y = -x passing through the origin; whereas D will produce the hyperbolic curves as shown in the question.).

If not because of this Q 28, my 'dearest disciple' would have obtained perfect score. Two months ago, when her scores in school's final trials were known, I wasn't very happy. And now, 39/40 for Paper 1 (if the above answers are the same as the examiners'), then I can't be unhappy! Similarly, for her Physics, Chemistry and Add Maths... :) (Update, 20/3/2014: SPM results are out today: She obtained A+ for her Modern Maths, English and Sejarah (History); A for Physics and Add. Maths, A- for Chemistry, Bio and BM. No subject B or below)

So folks (entering Form 5 or Form 4 in 2014): If you do not do as well as you would like in your final trial exams - mark my words: DON"T GIVE-UP. Get help immediately!

In just two months or so, from final trials to actual SPM exams, you can still make a big BIG difference "if you put in intensive effort with the help of a competent mentor!". A boy with single-digit marks in Physics in school's final trial was helped about 4 years ago to finally obtain B+ in SPM - that shows that it is possible if you don't give-up!

Never give up!

But why put yourself in such a risky "last-minute" pressurised situations when you can easily enjoy your study by doing your work from Day 1? From Day 1, aim for full As, get actively involved 1 or 2 leadership positions and excel in 1 or 2 sports, you should be happy 2 years thereafter...

With that, I wish you all the very best in your Form 4 and Form 5 ... :)

Question 28

Why B? I thought it is D?? please explain, I don't understand at all.

MR. Tan (tutortan1@gmail.com) said...

There was dictation and typo error. The correct answer should be D (not B): B will produce a straight line graph y = -x passing through the origin while D the hyperbolic curves, y = - 1/x, as shown in the question. Thz for your q.

thanks mr.Tan.. btw why the answer of Q8 is B? my answer is A..

x = angle LMS (opp. angles) = 360 -(90 + 160 + 90) = 20

y = 180 - (angle QMN + angle QNM)

Since RSMT is a tangle at M, therefore, angle QMT = 90; and,

angle QMN = 90 - angle x = 90 - 20
= 70 = angle QNM (isosceles triangle).

Therefore, y = 180 - (70 + 70)= 40

Hence, x + y = 20 + 40 = 60.

Answer: B 60.

3rd line typo error:

Since RSMT is a "tangent" at M...

oouh..thnks.. 1st-4th line i got it but i still confuse to get the value of Y.. why 180-(70+70)?

i answers 180-(70+90)
is it QMN is isosceles triangle?

MR. Tan (tutortan1@gmail.com) said...

Yes, QMN is an isosceles triangle because QM = QN = radius of the circle with centre Q. :)

Q. 24 the answer is A

MR. Tan (tutortan1@gmail.com) said...

Nope! The answer is C!! Because for any inequality, say: 2 < 3, when you multiply or divide by a negative number, say: -1, you have to reverse the inequality sign because: -2 > -3.

Thus,

For Q 24: Find the solution of
(x-6)/-3 < 5

x(-3): x-6 > -15
x > -9 (Answer C)

Pardon me, how to do Question 25 and what is "median score"? Thx

I do not have that question with me at the moment. Kindly give me the full question or a more difficult question, please. Thank you. :)
